Ashworth has built a distinguished legal career representing clients in some of North Carolina's most serious and consequential matters. Over the course of more than ten years serving as a Public Defender, he represented individuals facing criminal charges and earned a reputation as a dedicated and effective courtroom advocate. During that time, he tried dozens of jury cases and developed extensive experience in jury selection, witness examinations, evidentiary matters, and closing arguments.

In addition to his trial work, Ashworth served as an appellate defense attorney before the North Carolina Court of Appeals, where he handled complex legal issues, prepared appellate briefs, and presented oral arguments. His appellate experience further strengthened his skills in legal analysis, constitutional law, and persuasive advocacy.
